On June 26, 2026, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) notified Wisconsin and dozens of other states that their Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program (TPP) grants were terminated, effective immediately. This wipes out approximately $68 million in federal funding for evidence-based adolescent health programs across the country, with no transition period and no warning.
Now, HHS is attempting to redirect that funding to new, ideologically-driven programs that Congress never authorized. TPP programs do far more than prevent teen pregnancy. They build health literacy, leadership skills, and economic opportunity for young people who have few other doors open to them. In Wisconsin, the PATCH Program alone has employed nearly 300 teens and produced documented, lasting improvements in health confidence, advocacy skills, and career readiness since 2010.
Terminating these grants midstream wastes taxpayer dollars, disrupts services young people are counting on, and dismantles years of public health progress. Federal courts ruled this same action unlawful when the Trump administration tried it in 2017. That history matters.
Contact your Member of Congress and urge them to demand that HHS follow the law, restore the canceled funding, and ensure these dollars are used as Congress intended.
